Nutella Brownies Recipe

Nutella Brownie

What is it about Nutella that just puts everybody in a craze???

Last week, for all you Nutella fans, we celebrated Nutella Day where the entire blogosphere (or at least that’s what it felt like) joined together and enjoyed cans and cans of Nutella! So many recipes poured in from Nutella Lava Cakes to Nutella Bread.  Yours truly decided to make Nutella Brownies.  But these brownies were extra special because it was made in honor of ThatsSoYummy’s 1yr Blogiversary.

I had promised you all some step-by-step photos of my Nutella Surprise… well here they are and trust me this one is one you DO NOT wanna miss out on! 😉

Oh yea make sure you have a TALL glass of cold milk next to you!

Gather all of your ingredients together: Butter, Sugar, Vanilla Extract, Eggs, Flour, Cocoa Powder, Salt, Baking Powder, Nutella, and Chocolate Chips.

Preheat oven to 350°F.  In a medium bowl sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.  Then set the bowl aside.

On low heat, melt the butter sticks in a small pot.

Then add the vanilla and sugar while stirring the mixture until well combined.  Remove the pot from the heat and allow to cool.  I poured the butter/sugar mixture into a medium bowl to cool.

Once the butter/sugar mixture is completely cooled add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix each time.

Add the cocoa/flour mixture to the egg mixture gradually, until completely mixed together.

Heat a nutella container in the microwave for a bout 40 seconds.  You want the nutella to have a runny consistency which will allow the nutella to pour easily.  Add the nutella to the batter and mix well.

Lastly add the chocolate chips and fold into the batter.

Pour your batter into a buttered square pan… I like to add parchment paper to my pan before pouring my brownie batter inside.  This makes it easier to take the brownies out after they bake and cool.  Bake for 30 minutes.

Now at this time you can give your little ones the bowl and let them have a field day… trust me they will love you!

Remove from oven and cool completely.  I placed my brownies in the fridge after they cooled to make sure that they came together and was not runny.  Due to its chocolate amounts the brownie may be sticky and fudgey inside, which to me is the best way to eat them but to make sure they were not falling apart.  I left mine in there for a few hours, but you could always leave them in there overnight and decorate the following day.

Enjoy!

Nutella Brownie Surprise

Brownie Batter

(adapted from Noble Pig and Culinary in the Country)

1 cup butter, unsalted

2 cups granulated sugar

2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

4 large eggs

1 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup of cocoa powder

1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup Nutella

1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips

Topping

Nutella

White chcolate chips

Mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Take the completely cooled brownies out of the fridge and cut in squares.  Then pour a tablespoon of nutella on each brownie square.  Then sprinkle the mini chocolate chips and white chocolate chips on top.  I did not have white chocolate chips but had a white chocolate bar that I just chopped up in small pieces.  Either way it works.

Enjoy! :-)

These brownies look soooooo good. Worth cheating on my diet for. I agree with Steph above, a scoop of ice cream would go well with this warm chocolate heaven.

I’m not sure if I did something wrong, but these did not turn out well. I did use 1/2 tsp of Baking powder. The directions just said “1/2 baking powder, no measurement. So, I guessed.

They did not set after 30 minutes in the oven. I kept trying to add time, but after numerous additions of time, the brownies still did not set. I did put them in the freezer overnight. Thought they somewhat set up, they were still way too gooey to even cut.

I was pretty disappointed b/c I LOVE nutella, and this wasted pretty much a whole jar. They’re going in the trash.

    Hi Ally,

So sorry to hear that the brownies did not set. My mistake for not adding the “teaspoon” addition to the baking powder. What I did to help set the brownies after baking them and allowing them to cool, I put them in the fridge for a few hours. Then all I did was take them out cut and come to room temperature. I hope you will not be discouraged to try this recipe again. But I am quite happy to hear that you did. Good luck net time.

Ok, I am making these as I type but realized that there is no size recommendation for the pan other than “square”… this will effect cooking time.

  14. Hi! I was just googling “nutella brownies” for a recipe that I want to make and post on my blog involving nutella, brownies, and pretzels. Yours was the first post that popped up. These look soooo amazingly yummy and fudgey that I have to make them! You didn’t post the source of where you got the original brownie recipe. Just wondering if you could let me know where it came from? Thanks!

  18. Anurachanee says:

Thank you for the recipe. My Nutella brownies are the best brownies I have ever made. I used 1 1/2 cup brown sugar instead , and only 1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips as we donor like them too sweet. Many, many thanks!

  19. yummy says:

    Aydee,

It could possibly work, might be a little gooey, but I say give it a try and let me know how it turns out. 🙂

  20. They have been baking for over an hour and still have not set! Frustrating!

  21. yummy says:

    Megan,

When you see them finished baked, you should let them cool and then place them in the fridge to set and come together. This should help you. Let me know if it does… I hope so 🙂

These brownies were more brownies/fudge and DELISH! I recommend putting into a 13″ rectangular pan – its so much dough. Also, chilling immediately is a MUST! I’ve made it twice now, and after the first batch – I’ve found those two recommendations are the only things is add to the recipe…..YuM!

  25. Sadie Leigh says:

How many servings is this ?

  26. yummy says:

You can cut 12 sliced brownies out of this pan.

  27. Kathy says:

I think this recipes looks fantastic. I had difficulties with the batter “setting”. I used a 9″ square pan and cooked for the 30 minutes suggested in the recipe. The brownies are “chillin” in the refrigerator, but they just don’t look like they are going to come together…….I don’t think they are cooked all the way through. Perhaps the 13″ pan is the way to go? How long would you cook them in the 13′ pan?

  28. Lilian says:

OMG That’s one of the best looking brownies I’ve ever seen.
I’m definitely gonna try your recipe.

  29. Best Brownies I have ever made!! Used 1 cup sugar and 1 cup brown sugar for a richer flavour! Definitely try this one just cook until they are only slightly wobbly! 🙂

These are amazing. A few changes I made: I 1.5 times the recipe to make them in a 9×13 pan. I lowered the temp to 325 and cooked them for about 45 minutes, then turned off the oven and let them sit in the cooling oven for another 10-15 minutes. (This is what you do with cheesecake to get it to set, and face it, these have as much fat and sugar as cheesecake). They came out perfectly– dense and fudgy and moist. They are definitely a hit. I didn’t decorate them with anything because there is so much stuff in them already. Just served them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a little melted nutella drizzled on top.

Thanks for the pic (which is how I chose which recipe to use) and the recipe. My brownies came out great even though I didn’t have the chocolate chips. Best brownies I ever made. They are so moist. I ate them with a dab of whipped cream cheese and caramel ( no ice cream)….lol.
