Is there an appetizer that no matter where you go you always find yourself ordering? When my sisters, brother and I were little, and even up to this day when we go out to eat, we always get fried mozzarella, whether it be in the stick form or wedges, we always get it. I mean what is better then hot crispy fried cheese???? NOTHING, I know!!!!
There are so many variations to making mozzarella sticks. You can fry them. You can bake them. You can roll them in breadcrumbs or… you can roll them in Panko crumbs. Panko was the way I chose to go. I love using panko crumbs. It just gives your food such great texture and the crunch you get is pretty outstanding.
My mouth is starting to water just thinking of these mozzarella sticks…. Mmmmmm.
The beauty with making mozzarella sticks is that you can prep them for your next shindig or when you just want to make something quick to nibble on at home. Or you can freeze them and use later on when your in a bind or having a party. It just a great way to stack your freezer up with a tasty snack you know your family will love.
I’ll stop rambling on and just get to the point where I share this fantastic yummilicious recipe with you all, (and yes yummilicious is a word, well at least it is for me) 😉
Oh melted cheese you are soooooo lovely!!!!!!!

- Cook Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 35 minutes
- Yield: 6 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 12 pieces Mozzarella String Cheese, (removed from wrappers)
- ½ cup All-Purpose Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 3 Tablespoons Milk
- 1 Tablespoon Dried Oregano
- 2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs
- Vegetable Oil, For Frying
- Marinara Sauce, For Dipping
Instructions
TO PREP:
- Slice string cheese pieces in half, for a total of 24 pieces.
- Place flour in a small bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and milk.
- In another separate bowl, combine panko bread crumbs with dried oregano.
TO ASSEMBLE:
- One by one, roll mozzarella sticks in flour, then dunk in egg/milk mixture, then place in panko crumbs. Make sure panko crumbs stick to mozzarella sticks. Gently remove and place on a tray or cookie sheet. Repeat until all mozzarella sticks are all coated.
***THIS IS A MUST! Place tray in freezer for 20 to 30 minutes to flash freeze. If you are planning on not making these mozzarella sticks this day then you can freeze them on cookie sheet, then remove and place in a Ziploc bag use for a later date. Just make sure to write the date on it.***
TO COOK:
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When hot, add mozzarella sticks, but make sure to not overcrowd your pan. Watch closely and turn over to evenly brown, cooking less than 2 minutes. Do not allow cheese to bubble and leak. (I unfortunately did a little bit)
- Remove to a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce.
