Jamaican Banana Fritters

There’s a thing in my house that when you have ripe old bananas either you make banana bread or banana fritters.  These delicious tasty treats can be eaten morning, noon, or night, as a snack or as dessert.  These fritters are so easy to make and will satisfy any craving you may have.

So if you have a few of these bananas lying around your hose… don’t toss them, put them to GREAT use! Enjoy!

Peel and mash the ripe bananas. Beat egg, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Next, blend egg mixture with mashed bananas.

Make sure it is all incorporated.

Then sift flour and baking powder into the banana/egg mixture.

Mix it all together. If the batter seems to be too thick add a little milk… I added about 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of milk.

Add oil to a frying pan and place on medium high heat. Drop spoonfuls of the banana fritter batter into the hot oiled frying pan.

Flip when you see the edges starting to get brown and golden.

Lastly, combine cinnamon and sugar together to create your cinnamon sugar.  This is used to sprinkle on top of the fritters once they are finished cooking and still hot.

Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top.

I love fried bananas but never thought of doing them this way. Your pictures are great, too. My mother said that she ate fried bananas every day when she was pregnant with me and funny that this would show up on my birthday. Gotta go make fritters now!

  19. Candace says:

wow this recipe came to the rescue. I had three over ripened bananas that I was about to throw away, but now I can make them into a delicious breakfast treat!

  20. Norma says:

We did these yesterday am, and they were delish! We made several modifications due to time crunch and ingredients. . used some buckwheat pancake mix (for the flour & baking powder), an extra egg (the buckwheat is really heavy otherwise) and a tiny bit of kefir instead of milk, which I always have on hand. Cut out the sugar, and ate with good maple syrup like pancakes. I cooked them in virgin coconut oil. Next, I’m gonna do them with ripe plaintains and follow this recipe exactly. Great eating.

  21. We will be trying these with our Grandchildren. They love both pancakes and bananas so I am sure that they will love these yummy fritters

  22. garfish says:

I just tried these this morning. I reduced the recipe to work for just one banana and it worked out pretty darn well. They were a bit too light (too much flour in my reduction attempt most likely), but for a first try I’m thinking these are a keeper. They go great with bacon for that sweet/salty thing.

  23. simon says:

great recipe indeed. i do luv it & ‘ll sure give it a try tonite

  24. Teri says:

  27. Sheila says:

This is a great recipe . My Mom always made banana pancakes when I was a child and this reminds me of those.. I used whole wheat flour instead of white flour. Still good!!!!!
    Thanks for sharing…..

  28. looks so delicious

  29. Rachel says:

I found that my fritters turned out very thick and doughy. I was wondering if you have any advice? Yours look much thinner, the inside lighter, and the outside more crispy.

  30. Amelia says:

Just made these after stumbling across the page, absolutely delicious!
With some nutella on the side, dangerous 😉

  31. Annie says:

Fritters were delicious. I tried to stick to the recipe for the first run, but my nutmeg has apparently seen better days. So I added about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp orange extract which helped bring out the banana and cinnamon flavors.

My family seemed to like them better without the cinnamon sugar on top, so next time I plan to make some very non-Jamaican caramel sauce to drizzle.

P.S. @Luna, You are equally capable of figuring out the amount of calories in flour, sugar, bananas… just f*cking google it.

  32. Josef says:

They were ok. The milk is definitely needed, my batch came out really thick. Once i added the milk, the thinner consistency cooked easier. The flavor was a bit one note, i think a pinch or two of salt would help. Either way, it’s a nice change from the normal pancakes.

  33. omg, this looks soo freakin yummy!
im totally making this on Sunday! (:

  34. yummy says:

@Rachel, you could of added some milk to the batter to thin it out.

  35. Ash says:

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me aprox. how many this recipe makes
    Thanks

  36. AMAZING says:

So good I had to leave a comment in the middle of my first fritter. These are the most amazing things I’ve ever made with extra ripe bananas. And I veganised the recipe. Thanks 😀

  37. yummy says:

They made me around 12 small sized fritters…

  38. Mel says:

If you tell me how many fritters this recipe makes, I can do an estimated nutrient analysis. I’m a dietetic intern. =)

  42. Brianna says:

Just found this recipe through stumbleupon.com and made them…the are SO good!

  43. Delicious says:

These are amazing! I’ve made them twice with my roommate and we agree they are one of the best things in the world. When we follow this recipe, however, we get much thicker batter than the pancake consistency that these have. I just added a little more oil to the pan and made much smaller “blob” fritters and they turned out great! Also have to turn the heat down a bit to keep from burning.
    Thanks for the great recipe!

  44. use more egg to get softer texture. ^^
you can also add cheese for rich taste…
    yum!!

  45. Chelsea says:
  46. Shirley says:

Is this not just a banana pancake? Aren’t banana fritters supposed to be bananas dipped in a light batter and deep fried?

  47. yummy says:

In Jamaica, we mash them and make them like banana pancakes but they are called fritters.

  48. Schakuz says:

Hice esto el dia de ayer, y me quedaron deliciosos, muchas gracias por la receta¡

  49. Wow those look amazing. Now if I can refrain from eating my bananas so that I can get them over ripe enough to make these I’ll be doing good.

  50. THres says:

THank you for the clear easy to follow instructions.
    Bless.
